Frequently Asked Questions

Do you conduct drug testing?

In order to assure all residents the safety and stability of a drug- and alcohol-free environment, random drug testing is conducted regularly.   If residents are not able to stay drug-free, referrals to quality treatment services are conducted by our staff team.

Are residents required to participate in 12-step activities?

Yes.  Twelve-step involvement has proven to assure the most promising outcomes for a lasting recovery.  Residents must be involved in community 12-step meetings and work with a sponsor.  If needed, we will help residents identify local meetings and other support that they’re comfortable with.

What are the guidelines for off-facility activities and overnight passes?

Each resident’s activity plan is individualized, based on assessment of their progress and readiness.  In general, residents are asked to stay close to the house during the first phase of residency.  When they are oriented to the House and daily routine, a plan is developed in collaboration with staff for community activities, which will incorporate community 12-step activities and may include employment, education and recreation.  As residents become more independent, they may request overnight passes and other privileges of residency.

Do you conduct referrals to therapy and psychiatric services?

We do refer to appropriate outpatient programs, mental health services and therapeutic counseling.

Are residents’ medications monitored?

Residents are required to make staff aware of all prescribed medications they’re taking upon assessment, and throughout residency.  They are responsible for taking medications as prescribed, and the staff team members are involved only if problems develop from failure to adhere to medical recommendations.

What is your policy on relapse?

Victoria's House maintains a zero tolerance policy related to all drug and alcohol use. By working closely with each resident, the Victoria's House Team frequently prevents relapse in cases where it may occur. When a resident does use drugs or alcohol - or relapse, Victoria's House Staff intervenes, assesses the resident's immediate need for support, and coordinates with the client's treatment team to follow and closely monitor the implementation of their recommendations.
